California City Nocturne Painting of Abbot Kinney Los Angeles
Nocturne Painting California City – Starting with a yellow undercoat, this piece achieves the brightest areas of light, especially around the windows, reminiscent of Edward Hopper’s iconic ‘Nighthawks’. The technique ensures that the window illumination shines through, creating a captivating focal point in the painting.
This nocturne oil painting is not just a visual delight but an artistic inspiration. Perfect for art lovers, especially those who appreciate the serene beauty of night scenes, this artwork is a nod to the timeless charm of Edward Hopper’s style.
How This Came About
I saw a similar artwork of a cityscape building and always admired Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks. Tho I didn’t intend to create a piece that looks like Hopper’s iconic piece it just ended up like it.
Nocturnes
I like painting nocturnes quite a bit. I enjoy creating light that pops in a piece. That’s where the inspiration came from. I did a search of buildings of Los Angeles and this is what came up.
Nocturne Painting California City Cityscape Appeal
I did the painting first then, figured out where this building was likely modeled after. And come to find out it’s Abbot Kinney Boulevard near Marina Del Rey. I am familiar with this street due to a visit I once had in the past.
Abbot Kinney Boulevard
In the mean time in 2018 I met a friend for dinner in the Marina Del Rey area of Southern California. After our lovely dinner at Cheesecake Factory across from Mother’s Beach, we took a drive and went up and down Abbot Kinney Boulevard. A quaint little street with lots of restaurants, and charm drawing lots of people to the area.
